ENGLISH VERSION
The 319 series, originally numbered 1900, is a diesel-electric locomotives series that began to be manufactured in the 1960s mainly by MACOSA and General Motors for the Spanish railway company RENFE. The original series had 103 units that were delivered between the years 1965 and 1972. The original design of the series was very similar to the 321 series although the initial 10 units had an American design with a single driver’s cab. Later, in the 1980s and 90s, several sub-series known as 319-200, 319-300 and 319-400 were created.
The 300 sub-series have certain improvements over the 200 sub-series, as the engines were upgraded, offering these (GM 16-645-C) 2,230 hp. Unlike the previous one, this series is specially prepared for passenger traffic, it has heating for the train and its maximum speed is 140 km/h. The 40 units of this subseries, manufactured by Meinfesa, were delivered in 1991 and 1992.
The 200 subseries
As of 1980, the 319 locomotives began to be scrapped due to oxidation problems, but as the fact that the performance of the engine was very satisfactory, it was decided to keep them as well as other components and create the first sub-series of 20 locomotives that RENFE awarded to MACOSA. All of them were delivered in «NUEVA IMÁGEN» livery (blue and yellow except for two that received the «ESTRELLA» livery). This subseries is distinguished from the others by having cabins with three windows instead of two.
From 1991 the «TRACCIÓN» livery is applied in dark gray and yellow.
In this video we can see a locomotive from the first subseries in the RENFE «TRACCIÓN» livery picking up a set of three Rnos-type wagons for the transport of wood, which by the way is handmade.
The scene is set in the V era of the Spanish railway (1991-2005).
